A child can be anything in life when the Gods deem it fit.
This is what Yfel Basol learned quickly after being sold to a flesh trader. Finding happiness in life as a famed Arïan would be more than she could bear as her first master, and first love, is murdered. Out of his death, she faces atrocities she can barely endure and knows all along her children are gone. To save them she must embark on a quest to not only save her children, but to also free the very people that hold her children as the ransom. A mother will do anything for her children, even if it means sliding back into the role of an Arïan after being set free from the title.
Perhaps just perhaps, in finding herself she can love again as well.

The author weaves a tale of an alternative universe where daughters can be sold to pay debts, where governments can be overthrown by betrayal, where deities are fickled and legends become reality. Our heroine is constantly buffeted by circumstances beyond her control but her destiny lies in holding fast and dealing with whatever comes her way. There is so much beauty and creativity expressed by Ms. Newton but having to constantly try to interpret what the author meant to say due to a myriad of spelling and grammatical errors was wearing
As with many indie writers the critic is to edit, edit, edit. What good is wonderful writing if your readers can't understand your meaning.
What should have been a four star rating was only a three .

Baile edition by LeTeisha Newton Romance eBooks Reviews
Wow! Right off the bat you can tell that LeTeisha has done her research. The language and the speech in this book is beautifully crafted, such that the characters seem to jump right out of the book and converse with you personally. The last time I saw that in a book was in Interview by a Vampire by Anne Rice.
I think the difference here though is that this is a story that breaks from the conventions of typical African American literature, discussing repression, and instead shows the protagonist mother as a proud and powerful woman.
That strikes two chords at once the issue of race; and the issue of gender. LeTeisha does not bash the reader over the head with these issues, but rather lets them sink in as the narrative develops. I think the scale here is only comparable to Game of Thrones, although Baile seems to have more focus. Cannot wait to read her other works.

My four-star rating ignores the numerous typos and other formal gaffes in this manuscript. The long paragraphs, while slightly archaic, are charming and accord superbly with the loquacious oral tradition the author is working in. Often, self-published authors have neither the time nor the money to hire an editor. But denigrating a book for those reasons is like judging a great actor on a first take. This is a well-crafted fantasy with an engaging heroine. It is original, exciting, by turns cynical and romantic, and demonstrates that a lot of thought has gone into imagining and generating the tale's fantastic landscape. But the exterior and cultural landscapes are as well thought-out as the interior, psychological ones. You would do far better with something like this, than with some mass-produced, carefully edited piece of derivative drivel.
Baile is an interesting mix of folklore and fantasy. The main character, Yfel, is both likable and strong, and her love for her children is her greatest driving force. The story weaves through Yfel's life and you find yourself wanting to know exactly what will happen next. It is an engaging read and full of heart.
A beautifully written saga that puts characterization to the forefront. The issues of gender and race are explored in a way that doesn't seemed forced, as the reader is transported to a setting that deals with a culturally oppressive society. Romance and tasteful erotica help propel the epic tale of Baile, as well as intimate insights to her strong and confident psyche.
There is something about the voice of this author - it somehow sounds authentic, like someone would actually speak these lines, while having a sense of sophistication and messing that into the fantasy genre. The prose reminds me a touch of early Anne Rice - very rich insofar as getting into the characters head and sensing all that's around her. Not to mention a few ironic surprises along the way.
An engaging fantasy with compelling characters and excellent world-bulidling. The modern themes and poetic prose is enthralling. I found the borderline erotica a bit excessive and unnecessary to the story line, but artistic and tastefully done. I settled on 4.5 stars for this excellent novel and believe the author has potential for a sequel or prequel in the same world.
